PAT Storytime Walk

Join Dickinson Center's Parents as Teachers program for a Storytime Walk on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 going on from 2pm-6pm at the Bennetts Valley Community Center in Weedville. For more info or to register, call 814.834.2602.

This event is FREE to Elk County families with children 5 years of age and younger. Older siblings are welcome to tag along! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration not required, but recommended.

Arrive any time between 2pm and 6pm. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes to walk through. There will be crafts, activities, and a snack for the child.

Community participants include: PA Game Commission, Keystone Elk Country Alliance, St. Marys Public Library, Elk County Conservation District, Highway Safety Network, and the Bennetts Valley Community Center.

Please join DCI Parents as Teachers for Coffee & Chit Chat, which is a FREE monthly workshop for Elk County families with children 5 years old and under. Coffee & Chit Chat is held at the CEC Building in St. Marys every other 2nd Friday of the month from October to June at 10am - 11am.

Elk County Intensive Outpatient Summer Program

DCI’s Elk County Intensive Outpatient will be holding their Summer Program for children & adolescents (K-12th grade) from June 4th to August 15th, 2025.

Sessions will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-1pm. Lunch is provided daily.

LOCATION: Community Education Center, 4 Erie Ave., St. Marys

Who can participate in the IOP Summer Program? The children/adolescents referred to EIOP must have a psychiatric diagnosis. Must have or be eligible for medical assistance.

What will the child or teen do at IOP Summer Program? The children/adolescents will participate each day in two hours of group therapy activities, along with structured recreational activities and life-skills through assisting in meal preparation and clean-up.

Survivors of Suicide Loss Event

Dickinson Center, Inc. and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host the 7th Annual Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. They’re inviting you and anyone that you know who has been affected by suicide loss to attend. This event is free to attend and is open to individuals age 14+.

When: Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 11am-2:30pm
Where: Tablespoons Café & Deli, 10 Erie Ave., St. Marys

We will hear a local survivor of suicide loss share their experience.

Licensed therapist, Angela Chew, LCSW will discuss mental wellness after a suicide loss and coping through the holidays.

Kindergarten Readiness Program Starts in June!

Dickinson Center's Children's Prevention Services offer their Kindergarten Readiness Program to all incoming kindergarten students within the St. Marys Area and Johnsonburg Area School Districts.

This program is free of charge, designed to enhance the skills your child needs for success in their transition to Kindergarten and the coming school year.

The Kindergarten Readiness Program provides your child with an advantage by promoting:

Friendships with future classmates
Cooperation with peers and adults
Learning in a classroom setting
Letter, number, and sound recognition
Fine and gross motor skills
Proper handwriting techniques
Communication and social skills
Familiarity with their new school, classroom rules, and routines

CROWNS Safety Training Series Coming to Dickinson Center, Inc.

Dickinson Center, Inc., in collaboration with the Cameron & Elk Counties Behavioral & Developmental Program, and the Milestone Health Care Quality Unit of Northwest PA, is excited to present a comprehensive CROWNS Safety Training series designed specifically for individuals with intellectual disabilities (IDD). This essential program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe across various aspects of life including at home, in the community, online, and at work.

Training Details:

Duration: Three-week training series, 1 hour per session.
Dates: March 17, March 24, March 31, 2025.
Time Slots: 10-11 AM or 1-2 PM (Both sessions cover the same topics.)
Location: Dickinson Center, Inc., 43 Servidea Drive, Ridgway, PA.

Each session will address critical safety areas through the CROWNS program, including:

Community
Residence
Online
Workplace
Natural disaster preparedness
Self-safety in relationships.
Each session will feature refreshments and an exciting drawing for a $10 Walmart Gift Card!
